Calling all outdoors bloggers, backpackers, hikers and those who are keen to get into spending nights out in the great outdoors!
Fancy a social event? Meet and greet with like-minded folk, share stories, tips and opinions concerning all with backpacking or wild camping – as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Peak District National Park.
This informal event is to be held Friday 26th to Sunday 28th August at Park House Campsite adjacent to the famous Monsal Head near Bakewell.
A basic site with all the facilities you require and of course the Monsal Head Hotel and it’s Stable Bar next door – giving you fantastic views down into Monsal Dale and around to Longstone Edge. The village of Little Longstone is only a ten minute stroll away with it’s renowned Packhorse Inn, too.
So, what will the weekend entail?
Apart from meeting up with like-minded souls and the odd drink and meal in the local establishments -you’ll get to meet and perhaps grill some faces from the likes of Rab, Terra Nova, Chocolate Fish, Ellis Brigham Mountain Sports and award-winning retailer Webtogs. Even go on walks together in the local area.
Expect to see samples of their latest gear and how they can help or inspire you into spending nights out in our wonderful British landscape. Heck, give them feedback on any of their products!
We’ll be holding a raffle, too – with some Rab goodies up for grabs with all funds raised going to Kinder Mountain Rescue!
There’ll be no trade stands, mind. This is deliberately an informal affair where everyone can relax and enjoy the atmosphere and make new friends, put names to faces and so on. It’s up to you if you form a group and go for a hike in the area or walk solo. You can arrange that in the pub or by your tent. Either way, it’s quite simply a social meet to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Peak Park with fellow outdoors lovers.
The cost? Well, it’s informal – so all you pay for is the campsite and your food and drink.
2 night minimum stay. NO BOOKING IS REQUIRED (as that’s organised through myself). Attendee numbers will be strictly monitored. £5 per person per night in a 2 man tent is the cost to stay at Park House. Tents are limited to 4 man (£7 for one and £5 for every other) at their largest – but we’re all keen backpackers, right?
So, arrive with your usual gear. I for one will be – and likely bring my meths stove and cook freeze dried meals, for example. Remember, no booking is required as that will be taken care of by myself.
You can see on the map below where the location for the meet is to be held. The red tag indicates the location of the Monsal Head Hotel. Park House Campsite is just south of there – on fields surrounded by trees. It’s a flat and quiet site, with toilets and shower facilities.
Interested?
Let me know in the comments below or via email, Twitter or Facebook.
Granted, I’m not sure of what numbers to expect – but we’re limited to around 60 people on the campsite. So, I’d recommend you let me know if you’re coming along in some form or another.
Also, when you inform me of your attendance, do let me know what shoe size you are – it’s for a surprise at the meet.
All in all a good weekend to meet, greet, make new friends in a wonderful Peak District location with handy amenities close by!
We're definitely interested! Will be good to get back the Peak, not to mention some good craic! Not sure what combination of us as one might still be in NZ and another in the Pyrenees. Promise will try not to bore everyone – just don't mention merino!

@atkypne – I'll draw up a 'schedule' nearer the time, mate. Nothing too formal of course. Just things like what time the raffle is to be held and so on. So, I imagine from mid afternoon onwards we'll get things rolling.
