terrybndBLOGCAM – A bivouac in the Chiltern Hills

Quick post this – just got back from a fab trip in the Chiltern Hills filming for a client and back out to the Peak District for a few days shooting more video. Really enjoyed my bivvy in this scenic corner of southern England. Hopefully, I’ll be heading back that way soon…..

I have lived under a bivvy for years when i was in the army, in the desert, arctic, jungle ETC
i am in the same boat as you Terry, I prefer a tent as then you have the option of both ways of sleeping

    @OWDBUM – I wasn't that bad! LOL

@Carl – Couldn't agree more, mate. Was a fab bivvy. Perfect.

@chris sumner – I know what you mean. Bivvy's have a place and I enjoy using them. But a tent in the UK is much more flexible and comfortable, for sure. Just my thoughts – not slagging off bivvying (why would I? I chose to do it on this trip).

  8. I'll admit, I am more of a fair weather bivvier… but it is a blast. Is that the Jupiter Terry? Nice bit of kit but I reckon it's a bit snug for me. I can also recommend a few drinks before hitting the sack!

Im a self confessed bivvier although have never tried the hooped bivi.

I just love the freedom of laying down when ever and where ever I fancy and with such a small footprint and no need for pegs you have lots of options.

Looks like you found yourself a fine option there πŸ™‚

@Northern Walker – Well, it's just common sense etc aint it. The bivvy is a Rab Ridge Raider, mate. I await your drink recommendations with a drooling mouth πŸ˜‰

@Willowisp – Thanks. I prefer the hooped bivvies now πŸ™‚ Helps keep the damp or condensation at bay by moving the air around inside. I used a summer down bag for this trip. All was well. Plus, it's eVENT fabric – which is very breathable for a waterproof membrane fabric

    Hi Terry,

Great vid, got a laugh from me.
I am interested in the Rab ridge raider and was wondering what you think of it? Any issues with condensation?
I climbed in one the other day and found it fairly spacious.
    Cheers,
    Ben.

@bsdowling – Sorry for the late reply. Been away for a few days (as usual). I really like it, Ben. Not had one condensation issue yet. I think the eVent fabric helps and the fact it's a single looped bivvy. Helps circulate the air etc.

I have some niggles but that's for a review due in the next few weeks.

Otherwise, as I said – I love it so far! πŸ™‚

Cheers for getting back to me. After looking at various bivi's and climbing in a few I found this one best. And once again your recommendation has sealed the deal!
I like rab products generally and after your review of the alpine 600 I bought that and loved it. So hopefully this will live up to the billing.
I will be using it next week on a multi day trip.
    Look forward to your review.

    Ben.
