|A short stroll from the pub and campsite and you’ll be rewarded with this fine view!|
Calling all outdoors bloggers, backpackers, hikers and those who are keen to get into spending nights out in the great outdoors!
Fancy a social event? Meet and greet with like-minded folk, share stories, tips and opinions concerning all with backpacking or wild camping.
This informal event is to be held Friday 24th to Monday 27th August at Bridge End Farm Campsite adjacent to the delightful Pack Horse Inn in Crowdecote.
A basic site with all the facilities you require and ample parking too. Of course, if you wish to arrive by public transport there is a the 442 bus which runs regularly between Buxton and Ashbourne and stops right outside the Pack Horse Inn.
The delightful village of Longnor is only a short drive or 20min walk away where you’ll find a cafe, pubs and such like but more importantly, what you’ll discover in this area is fabulous walking country along with sublime views of the White Peak and Dark Peak.
The Upper Dove Valley is an area often over looked by the masses which is a real crime. You have wonderful limestone dales to wander in peace and quiet, secluded woods, towering limestone reefs and high windswept moors. It really is the Peak District in miniature! Caves can be found, an old Norman motte and bailey castle and neolithic barrows and stone circles are all within easy reach of Crowdecote.
So, what will the weekend entail?
Talking, walking and socialising. The event will be very informal. I’ll update this page in due course but like last years meet at Monsal Head, hopefully people will get to mix and grill with a number of outdoor manufacturers, too!
|Checking out some of the latest gear from Rab.|
I’m a busy man nowadays and my spare time is very limited so I’m pleased to say that Dave Mycroft from My Outdoors will be in charge of organising the event. So, do keep an eye on his website for further details and announcements. Feel free to contact him if you have any questions or queries.
The Pack Horse Inn is a freehouse and serves a wide range of local real ales. Food is available too.
Camping costs are £3 per person per night. Bargain!
So, arrive with your usual gear. I for one will be – and likely bring my meths stove and cook freeze dried meals, for example. Numbers are not limited but please inform if you wish to attend so can inform the campsite.
You can read about last years social meet at Monsal Head HERE.
Take a look at the map below to locate where the meet will be held….
All in all a good weekend to meet, greet, make new friends in a wonderful Peak District location with handy amenities close by!
