FREE ENTRY! Scafells film in Wasdale, Lake District

‘Life of a Mountain: Scafell Pike’ Come along and enjoy the area!

As my humble way of giving something back to the community of Wasdale, this month there will be a couple of screenings of my Scafells documentary in what I consider to be THE best pub in the Western Lake District – The Strands Inn and Brewery, Nether Wasdale.

The pub was a main base for me for much of my filming. A place I rested, charged batteries for video kit and socialised in becoming great friends with the locals and of course the owners of the inn. It’s also a haunt of many who you’ll see in the final film! A proper locals pub welcoming to tourists in this delightful but often overlooked village in the Wasdale Valley.

ENTRY IS FREE to enjoy a 60 minute abridged version of the full film! And will be shown at 6pm on Saturday 21st June and again at 3pm 22nd June via a projector in the pub. I’ll be about both days to introduce the screening and take questions and answers from folks afterwards. There’ll be some special guests too including my good friends David Powell-Thompson and Eric Robson.

Nether Wasdale is circumnavigated by two main roads that lead in and out of the Wasdale Valley and is therefore often missed by the masses who instead head for Wasdale Head thinking there’s nothing else (perhaps) on offer. Needless to say, they’ve no idea what they’re missing.

A picturesque Lakeland village with a backdrop of the Wastwater Screes and many, many fine walks to be enjoyed nearby to all the usual fells in the area. Often walks off the beaten path too if you wish to avoid the relatively quiet country lanes. The area affords a superb contrast of scenery for the discerning walker – from lush green wooded dales to open moors and the high fells that tower of one of the finest valleys in all of Britain.

The Strands Inn have offered rooms at a discount if you wish to stay on the Sunday evening too! £50 a night. Sadly, Saturday is fully booked. Give them a call on the links below. May be wise to call and book a table for either screening too as the pub becomes more and more popular.

Across the road from the inn is a delightful campsite managed by Julius who features in the Scafells film – Church Stile Farm Campsite.

So what are you waiting for? Come on over for a top weekend, top micro-brew ales and locally sourced cooked fresh on the day food in my favourite area of the Lake District. You won’t regret it! Will be a good craic!
